If your fan is that loud the fan clutch fluid may be emulsified. Inspect the fan clutch. As for replacements, my preference is for lightweight, aluminum flex fans... They're mechanical, as quiet as electric (quieter than some electrics) and more reliable as they don't depend on additional sensors, relays and fuses. With modern mechanical vs electric fans, when pushing the same amount of air, the mechanical will probably be quieter as there's no additional motors driving it... It all depends on the design of the fan blades.
