Not quite... You don't really even get a decent low end bump in TQ as a healthy CT-26A will have you well past the zone where any benefit would be derived in only a few seconds. If you're racing one city block at a time (stop light to stop light) you may find it "better", but then a higher compression N/A with a shorter end gear would still beat you... In the quarter mile or any extended driving where you actually get to shift it's all handicap.
Adjustable cam gears are both overrated and underrated.... The same goes for custom cams. If you want any significant shift in power you really want a set of cams ground for your specific build and driving style... As most can't afford that a set of off-the-shelf upgrade cams paired with adjustable cam gear are the way to go. Adjustable cam gears aren't a waste and if you're going to be buying both but can only do one at a time the gears are what I recommend starting with.... but there is only so much room for tweaking with the stockers (may not seem like it, but once you get some serious cams in there you'll see). The thing with custom cams is that the more aggressive they are the bigger the difference many other factors are going to play... being locked into a static timing is a complete waste as .5? may make or cost a decent amount of power.
