Sure, it's a matter of volume and that's a HUGE difference in volume. Take a bicycle pump and fill a 1 liter bottle with 30psi. Then fill a 2 liter... which one takes longer? Also the smaller diameter piping grants a higher velocity intake charge (better at low RPM). I'm not saying the factory piping is great... I'm saying that.... oh god... can't believe I'm about to say it..... Bigger isn't always better.... This goes for intakes, throttle bodies, headers, exhaust and so on.

Factory IC inlet and outlet are 2". The factory piping is pretty crazy though and had restrictions all over the place where it's pinched down.
