As for which is better... That's not what this thread is about but opinions are always welcome here as long as you're not derailing the thread. That 500cc doesn't mean anything. The 1JZ is higher revving, handles more boost in stock form, has more advanced electronics (including a governor... ouch), and so on. The 7M isn't my least favorite Toyota engine but it's pretty low on my list... The 1JZ isn't at the top either though. They're close enough though that if you're looking >500 or 600 RWHP I'd advise rebuilding your current 7M over tossing in an untouched 1JZ with a bigger turbo. It'll cost less and is less likely to grenade on you. Now if you're going to fully rebuild either I'd go 1JZ but in the long run it's going to cost you at least twice as much money from beginning to end (if you're a novice).
