Oh yes! I blew my old turbo comprehensively a couple of years back now, when the BOV signal pipe split at high revs & when I let off the gas caused massive compressor surge to the point where the turbine sheared right off the shaft!!!
(I was running big boost for an old, standard CT26 though, IIRC I was seeing 12.5-13psi and was saving for a new one as I knew it'd wear quickly, unfortunately the split pipe forced the issue)
I only just got the cash to resurrect my car...
