I agree...it could be as simple as a maintenance issue not flushing the coolant regularly. Several items can corrode and fail in the cooling system without regular flushes, such as the water pump, the temperature sensor for the dash gauge, and the hose coupler over your #6 coilpack. The turbo(s) make the engine bay hot regardless. Unless you actually hear the coolant boiling inside the cooling system, there may not be any problem other than a failing temp sensor for the gauge on the dash.
