^ no it doesn't need to be a new trannie, no it isn't alot of work if you know what you are doing and have the resources available,
all he needs to do is get a manual driveshaft, manual bellhousing and gearbox, pedal box, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch line which joins the master and slave cylinder together... just go to a junkyard and pull all these pieces off and simply swap them to the exact same place, jumper the neutral start switch which you will find info on in the tsrm and it will go brrm brrm
in australia this is a very good price from what i can tell for a mk3 supra as they average between 8-10k even more
