Turbo Valve Clearances
As part of my BHG repair, I checked all of the valve clearances. All of the intakes are right around .009" (.006-.010" spec).
The exhausts of 5 of the 6 cyls. are right at .013" (.008-.012" spec), while cyl. no.1 is .011" on both.
Looks like these engines don't have a tendency for the valves to sink into the seats and close-up the lash. I have a few extra shims left over from my valve-clearance/head-bolt torque check on my 1988 Turbo, so I think I'll go ahead and reset them all to the middle or low end of the spec.
This part of the job is fun, finding out what size shims are in there, figuring out what size is needed to close up the gaps, and making a chart to see how I can swap shims around.
Anyone have a bunch of shims for sale, before I let the dealer "have his way with me"?
