I've recently been offered a '91 Supra N/A with about 88,000 miles on it. I know the owners as they are the parents of my friend, and they have been the only owners of the car. Assuming the price is fairly reasonable, should I jump on it (and sell my '98 Prelude)?
I've always loved Supras. My Prelude is nice, but it's wrong-wheel-drive and feeling kind of sluggish at only 195 hp.
I know that stock, the Supra only pushes 200hp. My goal, however, is to turbo it. I don't need crazy huge power numbers, and I'd like to run it on stock internals. Is it possible to get about 260-280hp off the stock engine? What's a good price estimate to get the turbo + tuning?
Also, what are some issues to look out for? Currently, the A/C is broken, but that's not that big of a deal to me since I never use it anyway. I love the way the seats feel compared to my Prelude... they're like a Laz-E-Boy.
So... Is it worth it to sell a '98 Prelude with 140,000 miles for a '91 Supra N/A with 88,000, with the potential of turboing it?
Also, how fast is the Supra N/A stock? What is it's 0-60 and quarter mile time? How is the suspension? Will I need to replace the shocks and springs on it to get the same handling ability as my Prelude (which has amazing handling, despite being FWD)?
Thanks!
