89-98 in US is 240sx because of the motor (KA24de). i'm pretty sure that the 89-90 came w/ the SOHC engine (pignose).
In Japan, the 89-94 had many models.
-RPS13 (Hatchback with both Redtop and Blacktop SR20DET turbo's)
-180SX Type X ( Hatchback w/ 1.8 Liter motor, ca18DET turbo)
-PS13 Has different headlights than US coupes ( coupe version some came with SR20DET also) which also have Zenki and Kouki Versions
- Sil80. Has a PS13 front end with a Hatchback rear end.
The non-turbo models came with SR20DE's. Same motor found in newer SE-R's.
Then you also have the 95-98 models aka S14 which came w/ blacktop SR20DET's. Also have the Zenkis and Kouki.
Then you have the 99-01 which are known as the S15. Blacktop motors and slighter upgrades than the previous model.
They all share the same chasis. That is why people can do different front end conversions and what not.

Actually 89-90 came limited with the DOHC (Dual Over Head Cam) you see those on the 240's that have two exhuasts nozzles coming out of the tailpipe instead of one on the stock pipe. They also came extremely limited in with the Super HICA(look it up cuz I won't explain it) which is what I had(and still have its sitting in my garage with the frront end cutt off, still need to get around to working on that). Hope that clears some things.
