The factory setup is fine with the fan shroud (a MUST ). Just make sure your fan and clutch are in good condition.

most people go electric to take some load off the engine, and gain a little power.

The clutch actually only locks up when the radiator is really hot, so under normal conditions, HP gains are minimal.

I went electric because my clutch was bad, and a new one was $80. I wanted it bit quieter under the hood, too.

I also hooked up a switch in the car to turn on the little a/c fans manually when ever I want.
