Thats in regards to newer engines not older. When your engine is new it needs the mineral oil to help break in the engine, but usually it is okay when it comes time for the first oil change to switch to synthetic. There are alot of rumors about the "dangers" of synthetic, don't believe them. but it is all I have used in my cars and I have never had a probelm.
