I paid $1700 cash for my 87' Turbo 5-speed (non-turbo) and it still needed a head gasket. I replaced the timing belt and water pump while I was down there. After taxes for the repair I paid around $1400, with labor. So I see it as $3100 for the car. It has a few rust spots, but not through the metal yet and still on the surface. Interior is absolutely MINT condition. Engine bay is relatively clean, only problem now would be the exterior.
I would say $2000 for a turbo is a LITTLE on the low side, especially if the head gasket was just replaced. Deffinetly check into it further...
I also use this car as a daily driver. If driven responsibly I believe any car can handle being driven everyday. If you burnout at every stop and drift around corners (lol, i do sometimes) then obvisouly the reliability factor will go down. But lets be serious, who buys turbo (other than TDIs) and doesn't want to go fast?? LOL!
