Your buddy is right...it could be many things, but I agree that one of the first places to check is the egr valve itself. After 100K+ miles, the valve can get carboned up, which could restrict egr flow. You could try disassembling it and cleaning it...or replacing it with a new egr valve from 'yota.

P.S. I'm assuming this is the only code showing up in your ecu...and that your Supra is otherwise in perfect running order.
