I run a shop that does A/C work. Does your system still use the R12 freon ? Its very expensive here in CALIF. $85 per lb. Your car probably holds 1.5 lbs. It may be more economical to convert it to R134a ($210 total). That way, if there is a leak (and all cars will leak sometime), it will be cheaper to repair and refill.
Here you can only get the R12 in 30 lb bottles, and with a Cal. A/C License.
The "low side" port(where the freon is put into the system) is on the compressor. The high side is on the line. I would not attempt to fill or repair an A/C system without someone there that knows whats going on, as injury may result.
