aem uego gauge

k so i have the AEM UEGO A/F ratio gauge, its got an output wire that goes to a serial port and uses hyperterminal on the computer for logging, i know that there isnt really a need for this because it doesnt have any rpm or speed signals but i also have a HKS EVC 9 with the easywrite and that does give me it, so i'm just trying to figure out if anyone has hooked up there AEM UEGO gauge yet to a serial because i'm getting no signal at all and also i did get a signal but it was all crazy and wack like asdfahsooaokkkkkkkkkoofhhhh22holjh43h2hfhh < like that :P
