Hello
Having browsed and then searched the forums and FAQs and found occasional parts of answers to my question, here is the larger question.
Two MkIII Supras, an 89 non-turbo 5spd and an 87 non-turbo 5spd, other than obvious cosmetic and trim items, what parts are common between those two cars? The 87 would be a parts source for the 89.
For example, are the electrical system components interchangable, items such as wiring harnesses, computers, instrument panels and so on?
For example, are the rear end components interchangeable, such as the differential and ring and pinion? Are the rear gear ratios the same?
Are the brake components interchangeable, rotors, calipers, antilock items? Are the calipers interchangeable between ABS and non-ABS-equipped cars?
Are the shocks and struts interchangeable assuming both cars are identically equipped (TEMS vs non-TEMS)? How nasty would it be to transplant TEMS from one car to the other?
Are the transmissions interchangeable, with both cars being 5spd?
Are the engine blocks and heads interchangeable? How about injection and ignition system components such as injectors such as coils?
Perhaps a better question is to ask
what is not interchangeable between those two cars, aside of the obvious cosmetic things such as bumper facias, tail lights and other exterior and interior trim items?
I should be able to answer many of these questions myself, given research resources. If you have
links to threads or sites where I can answer these questions myself I will sure appreciate them! As you can guess, my local Toyota dealer parts people are not much interested in offering help of this kind; get them beyond their parts computer screens and fuggetaboutit. Add to that that the age of these cars means that parts and service people who used to know those MkIII cars well, have moved on.
Many thanks in advance!
Will
