If you suspect cooling system problems, a cooling system pressure tester is a nice tool. Basically, it is a hand pump with a fitting that will replace the radiator cap. It also has a gauge on it. Pump it up to the operating pressure, and see if it holds. Any leaks will cause the pressure to drop, and may force coolant out of the leak. You should also be able to heard the leak if the air is being forced out. This can be done on a cool engine, but the engine should be warmed up first. This test is done with the engine NOT running.

P.S. - Autozone has it in their Rent-a-tool line-up.
