That's one huge air leak.

I have had my n/a do this trick of yours.

For me it was a timing and cam position issue.

You can check vacuum leaks with a can of starting fluid.

Start the car let it idle and hose all the connections down with starting fluid. If you hit a leak you will know because the engine will idle up.
