The downpipe is the piece of exhaust between the turbocharger and the rest of the exhaust. Look on the back of your turbocharger and youll see a 90 degree bend leading down to the exhaust beneath the car...that is your downpipe.
A bigger one will allow more flow through your exhaust, letting your turbo spool up easier, thus faster...and make more power.
