I've put 60,000km on my 1G, i've run it at 12lb and i've dragged her a few times, only had minor problems.
Clutch is the weakest things in the drivetrain, its the cheapest and easiest to replace, replace it with a hilux clutch (older hilux have the same spline count and same diameter 9" for the NA 9 1/2" for the turbo) its slightly more heavy duty.
If you manage to destroy a W58 gearbox with a 1G, you are a champion.
Only problems i've had with my 1G is, ignitor pack, alternator, knock sensors and oil seals on my turbos. Oh and she finally broke a camshaft, but at 200,000km a broken lobe on a camshaft is hardly a big issue.
But its ultimately up to you, but they are nice cars to drive, a bit of seat time and you will be able to get her moving quite well.
