Let me start by saying, yes I was pretty certain we were talking FOD and had no plans to try and use, but was trying to be nice in my response to an absurd idea lol…
Did not find any damage past there, but found crap in the pipe to intercooler, the pipes were starting to crack on ends, so I actually have a used, but in great condition pipes and intercooler coming to replace mine, as I am concerned about were shavings and crap are sitting down in the intercooler and in the pipes….
Thanks for the comments either way…
Mastergrader007 – you asked about removing turbo. Well it is not the easiest turbo I have done a R/R on, but there are probably more difficult ones out there….
Here is what I did, I know which bolt you are referring to, certainly spent a little time myself getting to it. But I used a ?” ratchet with I think a 10” extension, a swivel and a deep socket (I think 11mm) Now the important part is with the swivel, need to use some good quality electrical tape and wrap the swivel. ( I say good quality, as you want it flexible, vs the stiff cheap crap) This allows the socket to swivel without falling over while trying to feed it up through where you can’t see. Then you just have to play the monkey arms by doing your best to reach around one way with the ratchet, while reaching around to guide the socket.
My only other problem child with that part of the project was the 90deg exhaust drop down and where it attaches to the exhaust drop down pipe. There are 3 studs with 3 nuts. I used plenty of WD40 soaked overnight etc… an impact wrench, ? breaker bar and an added 24” cheater bar… something was gonna break before the nut was going to come loose… so I did what would have been easier to begin with lol… I just dropped the rest of the exhaust and did not bother disconnecting the 90deg from the exhaust pipe…
Otherwise not a major project, I was able to find all gaskets for the exception of one that I will have to make. Well the turbo is only a small % of what I am in the process of doing right now to the car, but I hope to have on the road by end of next weekend… I have only put 100 miles on car since I bought it last month, so I am anxious to get it done…
