I seem to be having an issue with my 1989 mkIII Turbo. As I am driving, if I accelerate and get the rpm's to rise quickly and then depress the clutch, the engine will cut out if I let the rpm's fall back down to idle and not shift into another gear. In some cases when the car approaches idle the check engine light comes on for a breif second and if I see the light I usually press the gas a bit to prevent the car from dieing. If the engine dies, however, all the car electrronics and (radio and ventilation) are still working but the power steering does not work and the steering is stiff and the dash will display the battery warning light. Whenever this happens I re-ignite the engine and it starts without any issues.
Has anyone experienced this or know what I should be checking? Also, woud checking engine diagnostic codes be a useful idea?
Thanks in advance
