If I were you, I would go with either supra model in between the years of 1993 and 1995. More electronics is not necessarily a bad thing, but Toyota started to put governs on the supra in 1995, but the governs that they put on the later models from late 1995 to 1998 were almost impossible to remove because they were built like a chain from ECU to BCM and back to the ECU so that there was no real possible way to remove it and the car to work right, let alone run at all. If your planning on adding mods to the car i would highly recommend a 1993 or 1994, or any year before that. Its a stunning car, and I can say that if you get a turbo model, do not underestimate the power.

A little History: From 1986.5 - 1989 standard non-turbo models had its power range from 3,000rpm to anywhere in between 6,000/7,000rpm, you would also start to pull away from a car in a race almost as soon as you hit 3rd gear. But the down fall is the short ratio of 5th gear. (Turbo Models are slightly different, not much though)
From 1990 - 1992 Toyota went from the 7MGE/7MGTE to the 1JZ models. Its displacement was less than the earlier models but more HP, which was a plus for saving gas. But its power range was similar to the 7MGE models.
From 1993 on Toyota used the 2JZ model engine which the displacement went back to 3000cc and made a big stage appearance with a whopping 215-230bhp and 0-60 in 5.3sec. Twin turbo models increased the HP to 280-320bhp.
I figured If you wanted a supra you should know a little about them. =) have fun, and good luck finding one in decent shape for a decent price.
