Gas Pedal Problem

I have an 89 supra thats in fairly good condition. i find that the gas pedal is to close to the floor and doesnt allow wide open throttle. my mechanic sed it was fine but im used to the gas pedal being about the same level with the brake pedal. Is this normal in a supra and if not what can i do to adjust it?
