Strange exhaust smell --1990 7MGTE smoking the greens?!?!?!

Alright, so this may seem somewhat wierd but im perplexed by this, when I looked it up I got a bunch of whack answers...

My friends 7MGTE just one day started smelling like there was a lb of marijuana burning in his exhaust, he has no smoke or anything coming from his car, just this odd marijuana like smell... any clues? And no its not actually marijuana...
