You have two real choices if it's an auto... either drop the driveshaft, or load it on the dolly by the rear wheels.
If you load it normally (front tires on the dolly) just putting it in neutral won't cut it as your transmission internals will still be turning because of the back tires, but the transmission fluid they need won't be pumped through the system. This will not do your tranny any good at all.
Now, if you load the back-end on the dolly, you can tow it but you'll have to be careful about towing it too fast as the front-end will want to shimmy. It's not fun. I've towed mine this way, but it's not something I would want to repeat unless I had no other alternative.
