On certain cars, there are different type of brake setups

1) Brake Pads which would consist of rotors calipers etc and are normally located in the front wheels.
2) Brake drums, and brake shoes which are common for certain vehicles and are normally in the rear

When you apply the brakes, the brakes are applied to all four, with hydraulic pressure.

For ebrake, they are in the rear, eithr they use the brake pads if they come equip, or on some vehicles they use a smaller brake shoe in back of the brake rotors. And if it is a drum, they just use the brake shoe for it.
