Dearest Suprra Girl (and any body else that is interested),
I have a great deal of respect for you, and the vast knowledge you present on Supras. BUT....YOU need to go unscrew the little lever on the door post and, using a flashlight, look inside to see that it does indeed control another lever (white) inside the body. That is the release switch for the seatbelt, in the event that it is 'locked' (like it does in a sudden stopping action) when the door opens.
You can also (while parked) 'feel' the ratcheting action when pulling the shoulder harness in and out when the lever is in the 'door-closed' position.
If the lever is broken, you won't have any problems until the seatbelt gets 'stuck' in a locked position and you want to get out.
