Not entirely... there are other reasons you'll see EGT's spike or plummet. The greater the spark advance the cooler your EGTs are (because the fuel is being ignited that much longer before the valves open and thus more of the heat is absorbed into the block, head and piston). A sudden, abnormal spike in EGT may be indicative of serious know which is resulting in the ECU pulling spark advance causing the EGTs to climb (yet it reduces the engine temp)... for example. But yes, EGT does also reflect mixture. EGT has been used for tuning fueling for far longer than AFR. Using both to your advantage is a very good move if you're willing to go the the expense and effort.
