If I recall correctly, I believe that you won't trip the check engine light by installing a downpipe in an OBDI Mkiv TT. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that only happens in a '96+ OBDII.

What is your main concern about a check engine light for this problem? Passing emissions?
