rear end noise???

i've got a strange noise coming from my '89 turbo. it's constant,and it's a kind of whirring or humming sound. center support bearing has a lot of play.kind of expensive to replace if that's not the problem. checked the rear end. fluid is full and not burnt. any suggestions out there?
