The five best crossovers in the 2015 New York Auto Show

Car manufacturers are starting to take notice of a nationwide change in car buying habits. For instance, GMC noted this year that for the first time ever, their compact SUV market overtook midsize cars for the top spot. As more and more Americans express an interest in crossovers (CUVs) auto makers from all over the world are racing to meet the demand. Here are the five most important crossovers to debut at this year’s New York Auto Show.
2016 Lexus RX
The Lexus RX is Lexus’s bestselling model in their 26 year history. Over 2 million of them have been made over the years and they account for 30% of all Lexus cars made. The 2016 model is an improvement in every way on its predecessor and should see high sales numbers in the coming years.
2016 Infiniti QX50
The Infiniti QX50 was one of the first luxury crossovers and the 2016 model is yet another solid improvement. The exterior styling has been revamped. Most importantly, however, the QX50’s wheel base has been extended which means a little more space for those in the back seat and a little more storage space in the trunk—8.3 cubic feet in all.
2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Toyota has been the undisputed leader of hybrid car sales since 2,000. The RAV4 hybrid is their 8th hybrid car. Not surprisingly, the new RAV4 hybrid gets excellent gas mileage. Not only will it go further on a tank of gas, it has more horsepower and acceleration than the conventional RAV4. Talk about the best of both worlds.
2016 GMC Terrain
As already mentioned, 2015 was the first year that GMC’s crossover sales exceeded midsize car sales. The 2016 model of the GMC Terrain might just continue that trend. It comes with updated exterior styling, daytime running lamps, and more safety features like Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
2016 Mercedes GLE
Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling SUV is better than ever thanks to a bunch of improvements to last year’s models. The 2016 models feature new and improved front and rear ends and are more environmentally conscious thanks to lower than ever emissions. For the first time, Mercedes is offering a plug-in hybrid version of the GLE for car buyers looking for the absolute best in gas mileage.
