1989 Turbo Supra FS 95% complete
Hey guys!
My Name : Branden Brown Location: Pittsburgh PA (The Supra is currently at a shop in Portsmouth Ohio) Car : 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa 5spd manual I bought my Supra about 6 months ago-ish. I got it off of a guy in Dayton Ohio with a rod knock in it. A 88 7mgte motor with a fresh bottom end rebuild (not even 60 miles on the rebuild) was swapped in.The issue with the car that has it at "95%" status is when it starts up, it runs nice, clean and strong but then when it gets warm it just cuts out.... it shuts off and it doesn't restart till it is cool again. I have no idea why... the shop I gave it to to fix it (which is why it is in Portsmouth Ohio at a shop) has had it for 4 months and can't figure out why... I am sure it is a simple thing that a supra mind on here can fix no problem. Other than that it runs great honestly. The body does need a little attention. A small dent on the front driver side quarter panel and a piece of the trim that runs along the bottom of the car is a little loose. It is a primer white right now and could use a paintjob. All the signals, headlights, tailights work, dash works. The shift knob needs to be permanently fixated to the shifter. The interior overall is pretty decent. The dashboard has a crack (from the heat is my guess) but the seats are in excellent shape. The whole car overall needs a nice lil bath What this car has is the following HKS headgasket with ARP studs, HKS intake, lowering springs and shocks, black 17in Konig wheels, Full 3 in turbo back exhaust with Blitz nur catback. HKS blow off valve. New front brakes and rotors (has back just needs installed), Brand new Clutchmasters clutch, new rear diff, autometer manual boost gauge, short throw shifter, CD Player, and a ton of extra parts including an extra ECU, a front chin spoiler that with some attention could be fixed right up and other spare parts. I also have 4 steelies with tires on them too if interested. The reason I am selling it is because I need to have a car this summer that can haul my hockey gear and get me too and from work. My significant other is in Ohio as well and I need to be able to see her so I am trying to sell this near complete project car in order to pick up a 2002 Ford Focus near me. Yes... it is sad Selling my Supra for a focus... but I have to haha. I am sure you are wondering why the car is in Ohio and I am in Pittsburgh haha. I live in Pittsburgh but I go to school in Ohio. I bought it in Ohio and did the swap out there. I discovered the shutting off issue and sent it to a local shop in Portsmouth Ohio called Checkered Flag Auto Repair. They have been trying to diagnose the problem but have been sort of slow about it and now that summer break is here, I am back at Pittsburgh. Make sense? haha... I have the title in hand of course. I am asking $2800 for it. I am open to offers but I am already losing out pretty hardcore on this so my loss is already your gain. Serious inquiries only please Please, if you have any questions at all... feel free to contact me my number is 412-638-7554 my email is teh_el1te@yahoo.com I check my email 20 times a day and I have my phone with me at all times and if not it is because I am playing hockey and will get right back to you. This is honestly a nice project that needs very little more attention to be completed... I am just in dire need of a vehicle or else I'd keep this sexy machine Thank you so much for your time! EDIT: I found links to a couple pictures of the car in light, tell me if they work! I unfortunately do not have any pics of the new motor swapped in because it is at the shop... I do have pics of the old motor that has the intake, BOV, etc if you want to see those. I can see if the shop will take a quick pic of it for me. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4142503_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1911794_n.jpg Thanks again! A very VERY kind member emailed me with some information. He had the same exact problem with his Supra and he said that one of the injectors was squirting WAY too much fuel which flushed or washed the oil out causing the cylinder to run dry. This lead to overheating which causes the piston to expand which eventually started siezing and cause the motor to shut off. This is exactly what happens to my Supra. It runs, it warms up, then it shuts off... it seems like a likely possibility that it could be one of the injectors. I never had them checked.
As of now the car still stands at $2800 but I am having the shop look at this Monday morning and test the fuel injectors. If this solves the problem I am either A.) Keeping the car or B.) raising the price a little because it will be road ready. I ultimately would still like to get a focus zx3 for gas and hauling my equipment. Thats really the only reason I am selling this supra in the first place. I just thought I'd let you guys know! |
