hey guys not really a big import fan but ive come across the mark3 supras and i love the look plus the targa top is a plus so anyway i was cruisin craigslist and found an 87 7mgte turbo 5 speed that needs a new fuel pump or so the add says anyway doesnt say the mileage but says its got new head gasket and valve cover gasket plus the clutch was done 2000kms ago hes asking 1000 bucks i was thinking of taking a look as its only 5min down.first off is 1000 bucks fair?i mean i hate the idea of buying a car that i havent heard run or test driving so all things considered what is a reasonable offer?thanks for any help or advice

hey man the 1st one i bought was for $850 , 87 , 5 speed with 17x,xxx . i drove 2 1/2 hrs just to see it because the pic on craiglist was not clear so i took my chance :x:, plus the owner told me that the car was sitting for almoust 2 years but that when he park it it was running until one day he decided to run the engine and it didnt start. i whent there and guess what? it was one piece, no rust at all , pure white . when my wife saw it she told me :eek3: holy shit !! for 850? i told her, hey even if i have to carry it home i`m taking it. i talk to the owner and start on working with it. he told me there was a man that want it for parts "dont now why because it was complete" MY AVATAR PICTURE , THATS THE SUPRA" i got the car running and told the man that i spend two hrs working on it , if he was able to let it go for $500. he look at me and told me , hey man you were the only one that put faith on it so take it, hhhoooouuu yyeeaahhhh!!!!!. i drove it back 2 1/2 to my house "NO PROBLEMS" i keep it for almoust 1 year NO PROBLEM AT ALL , just a coolant line and that was it. i decided to sell it :( because then i found my FANTASMA:dance: which is a 87 targa top 5 speed pearl white ONE OWNER, for $1500 . another one piece of diamond. plus i was getting deployed to Iraq. i sold it for $2500. i got back what i spend on the first one and the 2nd one + $500 on top. LOOK AT IT AND FORGETT ABOUT MILES , BLA,BLA,BLA. TAKE YOUR JUDGEMENT ON IT AND YOU WILL KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING. me personaly will go for it. GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND AND HOPE MY EXPERIENCE CAN HELP YOU A LITTLE BIT. :x: :gotnos:

niiiiice sounds like u got a good deal then.i just wish i could hear the motor cause if not im gonna see how low on price he will go cause 600 is what i feel comfortable with having not heard it run or anything but also gotta see what kinda condition the rest of the car is in your cause sounds like it was in great shape but this one says it needs some interior and bodywork

fantasma87 12-18-2010 10:27 PM

hey , about the interiors , theres a few people that have parts for sell. crazysupra is a very responsable person to deal with. bodywork , well mmm if you can take pic of him and post them so we can help you a little with it.. if you live close to it , tell the guy if he takes the 600 :x:. if he say no then tell him you will think about it :frown:. man but if the car is in good conditions "exterior" and the engine is strong, the interior can be fix later on . GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US INFORMED :gotnos:

A Supra for 1000.00 is a deal period. If you find out its too much to revive, you can part it out and depending on what you have (carwise) and how patient you are, you can make that 1000.00 back very easily. I looked at that ad as well and the fuel pump (if that is the problem) is very cheap and quick to fix. Any Supra below 1500.00 is pretty well a steal imo. They aren't incredibly difficult to fix and if you have the skills you will just make money off it.

However.. having said that.. if you buy it to fix it, be aware, that the Supra has certain areas (rust being the #1 pain) that are not cheap to fix properly (stress the word properly). Quarter panels, trim, moldings.. some are not available OEM so you have to find work arounds. Engine wise.. they are incrdedibly durable engines, with certain quirks (like the head gasket) that, again, when done properly are very well worth it.

Although I could give you a long list of what can be wrong with it, in the end, it comes down to why your buying it. Love the car? Fix it. Just dont ignore the fact that it can easily be a money pit. Also, if you do buy it.. insure it as an antique/collectible. Mine only costs me under 10.00 per month to fully insure as long as I do not drive it more than 5000 km per year. its like 400.00 less than putting parking insurance on it for a year.

well im pretty sure it sold and the reason i want it is cause i need a good reliable cheap running car and by cheap i mean 2000 or under and the supras seem like a pretty good option aslong as the headgasket is fine they look good there a 2 door good on gas and pretty peppy thats pretty much everything i want in a reliable beater(i use the term beater loosy)
