Default MKIII Speaker Installation

So I go to switch out my rear speakers with some polks and notice that I have 4 rear speakers. So is the rear audio spliced between both pairs?

I was switching the speakers because I have no bass whatsoever coming out of the rear.

If I remove the middle set of speakers could the very rear speakers (the new ones I just purchased) work better?
