The 240sx(USDM), or Silvia(JDM) or S-Chassis (both have same chassis - hence the name S13, S14, S15) are the best drift cars. That's why most drift cars you see are S-Chassis. That's why they're the most popular car among tuners and enthusiasts in Japan.

The 180 and 240 are the same except that the 180 is always going to be RHD because they were JDM only, and the powerplant for the 180 was an SR20 instead of the KA24. The silvia also shares the same S13 chassi but it is a coupe unlike the 180 and 240. the only difference for the JDM models is the body styling the underlaying platform is the same. The reason why they are so poplular in japan is that they are very cheap and there are hundreds of them laying in junk yards to get parts off of because the SR is not a motor that will last long without good care taken on maintanace.

actually the 180sx had the ca18det 1.8l turbo 4cyl, still a better motor than the ka24e tho.

in my opion, anything back wheel drive is a good drifter, but Rx7, S13/14/15, 350z, 370z, Supra, Soarer, and AE86 are pretty good at it.

slideways-2jz 05-28-2010 02:19 AM

its true, anything RWD can drift with the proper suspension and driver skill. the best for money reasons and for beginers are s-chassis nissans or AE86's. you can drift mk3's but they have a worse suspesion design in comparison to s-chassis.

ok let me clairify everyones fail of trying to explain s-chassis
S13's:
89-90 USDM 240sx had a KA24e, a single cam 2.4l
91-94 udsm 240sx had a KA24DE, a dual cam 2.4l
89-94 JDM silvia's had a SR20de-t(coupe style body)(205hp)
89-90 JDM 180sx had a CA18de-t(hatch style body)
91-98 jdm 180sx had a SR20de-t

S14's:
95-98 USDM 240sx had a KA24DE(dual cam)
95-98 JDM silvia had a newer version of the SR20de-t(had 215hp)

S15's:
only sold in japan came with the best version of the SR20de-t(250hp)

there were HICAS editon s13's which came with a VLSD and all-wheels streering.
any questions?....

:dunno:

i love the ka its an awesome platform that makes power like nobodies business
sr20det stock 6-8psi roughly 200hp
ka24de stock with turbo 6-8psi roughly 270-280 WHP
building one right now going full forged with a 50trim should make about 500 whp and hes still gonna have less than the cost of an sr swap into his car even paying labor :bouncy:

Yes the KA is a good platform, and it CAN make alot of power but not without alot of things adressed. An sr make 205 crank HP not WHEEL hp. At 7 psi, a stock KA at 7 psi will make around 230-250 hp with upgraded fuel pump, injectors, arp head studs, multi-layer head gasket, and a decent tune. If your aiming for 500 hp on a KA it will have to be very well prepared an you will be spending much more than it would cost than a SR swap, but it would be worth the extra money! Lol just my 2 cents, having owned 6 240sx's, all KA, 2 were KA-T. And i'm in the process of building a nasty KA-T w/ holset hx-35 turbo :)
