Anyone tried to paint the exterior molding on their MKIII? I know they switched to solid color moldings around '89. Mine is a funky blue color with black stripes. I would like to paint them the same color as my car. Any suggestions on prep?

Earlier moldings were metal bases with rubber over the top, later were all plastic. Either one could be painted, but the plastic would probably be easier. The ones on my 89 are plastic with a rubber insert, you could just paint the plastic part. You'll have to sand em smooth, use plastic primer, and paint them well.
You can also just get a complete set of replacement moldings in any color you want, this site has em. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...m?siteid=213747 |
yea you would have to sand them down.. Use masking tape for the sides and primer then paint
