HELP!!! My Hood is stuck closed!!
ok so i went to open my hood, pulled the latch, heard the click, but the hood didnt pop open as usual. Its done this once before, but it opened by playing with the hood a little. I already know that i need to replace the hood latch, but i still need to get into the hood before i can do that (i also need to put some oil in [stupid head gasket] so i can drive to work). Im thinking i can get to the latch from under the car, but if that doesnt work, then i could pry it somehow...but i dont want to damage the fender or any of the other components...if anyone knows another way...PLEASE let me know...
oh yeah shes an 87 7MGE |

never tried this, but i was wondering if you like, hold the latch open and then like , puch it with a stick from underneath? All ya gotta do is find a stick to go from under the car to the underside of the hood.

I had this problem. Reach under the car and push/bang on the hood with a stick or something like that. If that doesnt work, the cable is probably broken. But you can reach the latch, just pull it open. If the cable works, Grease up the hook on the hood and the the latch mechanism when you get it open. I just put a little oil on mine and it worked fine. Grease sticks thou.

if you did not already figure it out i have a suggestion.
A similar thing happened to my brothers truck. it would pop but not enough to unlatch it or whatever. we kept the hood poped and drove around. the bumpy roads unfroze everythign and it poped open when i tried it next. your hood will not fly up and block your sight if your worried about that b/c you have to lift it. lol. our hood release was not totally broke. yours might be and this might not work for you. |

if it isnt the cable or anything serious be sure to get some lubricant like silicone spray or something in the latch so it doesnt happen again.

i have the same problem but mine is because my hydraulics are worn out i just use my key to lift up the hood then unlatch it. maybe your hydros are done? or does your hood hold up itself?

stuck hood
This happened to me after a head-on with a Ford Bronco. I think I damaged his car more than he damaged mine ;-). I jacked up the front end, took a long bar, and pushed on the latch from under the car, and voiala! hood open!
All I had to do after that was bend the latch to match the place where it would latch onto the hood, and never had to worry about it again. I'm sure you already figured out how to open your hood, but let this be up there for the next Supra owner with a hood prob 8-). mk2 |
