Retractable Shade for MKII (1984)
HELLO EVERYONE!!
Let me introduce you to my MK2: This is my second, yep, second 1984 Toyota Supra. The first time I was young and stupid, and didn't realize what I had till it was gone (I gave it up at 394,000 miles). I've been fortunate enough to come across another 1984 supra and am putting it back on the road. It's been sitting for about two years until I could get the money together to do things right. I just got an awesome deal at www.remanufactured.com for the engine (5MGE), got 4 new 225/60/r14's, going to change the gas & other fluids, and am going to hook up the stereo system with DVD and all. Here it is: I want to hide my new $1000 system when the car is parked, so I will need that retractable shade that fits right behind the seats and latches onto the hatch. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Besides junkyard, where I can get one? THANKS!!!! **I'll post the pictures somewhere when everything is done in about 3 weeks** |

Yup, looks like i've got two choices: a) find a retractable shade, or b) come up with a creative idea to hide the system.
Any ideas anyone? Maybe other supra owners can benefit from your creativity. This is how the system's going in to give you a starting point. I'd be interested to see how creative we can be ;-). Last edited by marcus_mk2_84; 08-01-2006 at 05:21 AM. Reason: Add photo for creative suggestions |

Well you could always make one. I like the vw golf style. It is just a piece of wood or plastic or something covered in carpet, And it fits in the space around the top of the back seat to make a rear deck area when your in the car. And then when you open the hatch is has cables that pull it up, So you can reach the stuff inside. Just make up something like that.

3 cig lighters? what about the pool and wet bar? Just kidding. I'm looking for same thing. There are lots of supras where I live so maybe, I'll get lucky. I've also seen some SERIOUSLY tinted rear windows where you'd have a hard time seeing anything. I'm sure there's alot of fixes folks have come up with on this site, too.

what happened to the one that came with the car? if you dont have it anymore..it wouldnt be a big deal to make one, actually. I have the same predicament. I bought a sound system for my '86 and the retractable cover that is in the car has nothing to hook onto. ANYWAY to make one you just need a dowel with about 3-4' of fabric. Just put the dowel in the cradles that the original was installed (right behind the rear speakers) then glue the edge of the fabric to the dowel, and roll it up. when you want to pull it out, just pull the fabric and make some hooks to hook it on to the back 'wall' of the trunk
thats my best advice for now |
