im new to the supra i bought mine from a guy in TN kind of riped it off him. But anyway im lookin for a lil more out of the engine. I was told the 6mge had more the best of the 5mge and the 7mge im not sure what they mean by that. I have a good machanical back ground but dont know imports i want more power and still keep it N/A. Anyone have any idea on this. Or a better way to get more power for drag and drift

the 6m had a higher hp output vs the 5m, but i believe it was around the range of the 7m. the 6m is the jap version of the same 5m, just better design. dont ask, i dont work with the 6m much, but its what i know. when my 86 was in the shop, i had a port match job done on the head. it made a good difference in power, but the ignition system was slacking off.

The 6MGE is the 3 liter version of the 5MGE. It has more HP than the 5M but alittle less than the 7M.
The 5 looks identical to the 6 with the exception of the intake manifold and no EGR valve. Supposedly, the 6M is rated at 190HP, but don't take that as gospel truth. Also, the 6M was never put in the US Supras. I got mine from a friend in Toronto Canada.

I think the crank and rods, but don't quote me on it. It does take some machining work to do it.
The 6M uses the 7M crank, which is a bit different in some aspecs to the 5M crank. There was a discussion on another fourm about this very same thing.

Guys,
A buddy of mine just bought a 6M from a local engine swap place. It only has 40K miles. Not bad for mid 80s. Anyway, As you all know the 6M is the Japanese version of the 5M. The problem is parts availablility in the US. Anyone have any sources with fast response times? Or, should he just take the engine back and opt for the 5M? Thanks NGG |

well... off course the 6m is little better then the 5m. n the 6m in japan it does came with the turbo. n its rare to find in the US with the 6m. but anyway if i were you i will put up the 7mgte cause the engine mount were bolt right up tho. n bout the 6m. well it do it but less hp... then the 7mgte. hope you got ur car to work someday. post up the pix when you done working on your motor. peace.
