Can I swap a MKII Dash with an MKIII?

I was wondering if anybody has tried to put an MKIII dash into an MKII? Is this possible. The look very similar in size. However, I don't want to get started only to find out that size does matter. I want to do a 7mgte upgrade and I think that this approach could replace the entire wiring harness not just a sub-harness.

Your thoughts?

leave the dash just get a tach adapter and wire what you need, just have to add a boost gauge
