85 Supra Exhaust

Hello,

I have a couple questions. I have a completely stock 85 Supra with 117 000 km on it.

I am considering installing a high flow cat and widening the exhaust pipe back to the muffler a 1/4" or so.

1) Will this reduce the back pressure on the engine and will this cause any damage?

2) Can anyone recommend a good cat and muffler for this car? I want something that sounds good but not something that sounds too loud and buzzy.

Thanks

Modifying your exhaust is one of the BEST modifications you can do. The 5MGE is naturally choked down, so anything you can do to free up the air flow IN and OUT of the engine is a GOOD thing.

Tossing the exhaust manifold in exchange for a header at the same time you upgrade the rest of your exhaust will net you the biggest gains.

I have a Trust header with RabidChimps 2.5" catback & Magnaflow muffler. You can hear it in this lame video I made awhile back:

You also need to check out what Raptorracing has on CelicaSupra.com. I bought a complete system from him and it was an easy install and sounds great. He's also from your neck of the woods :)

What does rapidchimp do to mod the Pacesetter header?

He relocates the O2 sensor bung and has the header ceramic coated.
