Unhappy 1985 front speaker issue

Hi everyone, new here and have a strange question, I'll try and ask as intelligently as possible. Ok, my father got a 1985 supra and the stereo needed replacing, that's where I came in. Now I replaced the deck and can tell the front speakers are crap, so I dismantle the lower dash and kickpanel on the passenger side. I saw that the stock speakers are about 3" I see many online say a 3.5" will be do-able, so that should be no problem. BUT, there is also what appears to be a 6.5" speaker hanging out in the lower kickpanel area, no sound comes out of it. I did see two wires going to a third harness from the oem stereo that the 2 plug metra kit did not address but they were the wrong colors, so I'm not sure if that has to do with the speaker not working. So my question(s), do the two wires have something to do with this, possibly power to an amp for some front bass, or does someone know if there was an amp or not, or can anyone just tell me what this extra speaker is for.

The 6.5 is for bass support in the car but it ran off the factory radio and EQ combo.. I have yet to hear one or see one that still worked though..The other speakers are 3.5's..

Thanks for the info. I guess the extra bass would have helped, but I doubt I'll put in a amp just for a 6.5" hangin out over there. Thanks again.
