new (old) car

recently purchased a 1985 mk II with 5 speed. this car is to run at MAXTON MILE a standing start one mile time trial similiar to bonneville. So far the car has been to local shop for new shocks, diff. seals and just general service. I have installed a KN type air cleaner and tweaked the afm. next on list is new tires and removing rusted out cat and replacing wih 3" open pipe. First event in two weeks hoping for speeds near 130. Will be have to run event fuel which is 100, 111, 114 or 118 octane my choice there any hints on timing or other mods that will help. btw no intention of driving the car on the street.
