83 supra acceleration

Hey...I have an 83 Supra w/ 5-mge, 5-speed. Runs excellent most all the time, but it has an acceleration problem that occurs once in a while where there is no power with movement of gas pedal, and it runs extremely rough to where it will not move the vehicle, though it will still idle if I take foot off pedal. The first time it happened the car was new to me and had run for a month or so. I figured replace the fuel filter and pump. When I finished putting them on, the car would not start at all. Hauled it to mechanic and they found the fuel dampener screw on the outlet side of the fuel pump was loose and the dampener plate was fully shut. They fixed and sealed the screw with the plate fully open and the car ran great for a while. Then I ran into the same problem, it would idle fine, but not enough power to drive it. Took it to the same mechanic and they could find nothing wrong driving it 4 times over two days. They said maybe something clogging the injectors...even tho the filter was new??? From then on for about two months driving the car daily, running only super unleaded and fuel treatment, no problems, then last night same acceleration problem. Shut the car off for ten minutes, and then it started right up and drove it home. Need help figuring it out, and thanks for any help!!! This car is my main daily driver, and it is a pleasure to drive.

It sounds fuel related, for sure. If good fuel pressure, than possibly injectors. There is a sock type filter either before the pump (pump external on the 83) or it's in the tank. You can check that. You could check/clean/replace the gas tank. Old car, who knows? Clogged fuel lines?

it would be worth it to get your injectors checked out.

think the injectors have filters on them too??
