1985 Supra differential ''Help Please"
Have an 85 Supra I bought new. Still in good shape and still love to drive it. However its becoming a liability with differential problems.
Gets very noisy starting about 60 mph. Noise goes away when you let off the gas. Looking for a good used, rebuilt or someone to rebuild it. Had noisy pinion bearings replaced about 15 k ago but now its worse. I think the mechanic messed it up. I've been told that setting these up is pretty tricky and needs to be done by a pro. This time I may need a ring and pinion set but they are no longer available through dealers. Bearings and seals are generally available but gears are something else Been dogging the internet for a year now trying to find parts and mechanics. Any help or direction would be most appreciated. Hi all,
about to buy a 1985 MK2 Supra. The differential makes a very loud noise and the seller tells me it's normal for this model/year. Could use your opinion on the subject. Tks. |

Hey Mouse2437,
Realize your post was 5 years ago. But I have an all original 85 supra very nice, and diff has always been a little loud. Recently it has gotten very loud from 63-69 mph and if I let off gas goes away. Wanted to know what ever came of your situation with that. Hoping you see this post 5 years later! Thx |
