Lengthen front lower control arms - how much?
I have searched the world over for this answer, hoping y'all can help.
I have a MKII dedicated to track racing in a budget race series. Running a 7MGE in the MKII, good combo of weight and power. It has been a great car. We have terrible issues with wearing the outside of the front tires and understeer because we don't have enough camber up front. We just lose it around the corners when we push hard. A couple guys I knew who ran an 84 celica did this mod with great results but I have blanked on how much length they added to their control arms. Our machine shop will be cutting and extending our lower control arms to get tue camber we need. Any recommendations on how much we should add? We run 255-265 widths all the way around to keep our power connected which is working aginst us for camber. I know all the bad things that can happen from this, the control arms we are modding are a spare set, it is a dedicated race car so I don't care too much about tire wear, and you are right - We should have put a 7mgte in the car but we wanted it reliable so we forwent the turbo. Really just looking for a good way to get around the corners as fast as possible. Any good suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance. |
