burst into flames
what the title said, I have a mk2 with a 5mge and I took the intake system apart for a clean up to make it run better (good thing to it was dirtier inside the intake then the whole engine was). I put it all back together put my new battery in double checked everything and turned the key, cranked for awhile as the fuel rail pressured back up then just as it fired the distributor area burst into flames.......anyone got any ideas or answers on what could have went wrong?
Thanks in advance. |
ok my suspicions seemed to be correct, an injector seal failed and was spraying fuel all over the electrical. problem solved panic mode over.

injector seals are cheap i think 7 dollers per injector if you buy the kit.

oh ok, well I just I'll have to run to toyota again and see if they can help me out (I doubt it this time) if not then I'll get them to order some in. Wont be for 3 weeks tho seeing as I got a speeding ticket today.....:( just my luck lol

speeding tickets suck.
i still owe ICBC 500 form my DUI... |
As with any type of seal on the fuel system you must replace copper or aluminum washers any time you disturb one. Pull a banjo then replace the two washers (one on each side). Injector o-rings are very inexpensive, unless they've already been replaced less than a year ago you should replace them if you pull the fuel rail.
Even if these parts were expensive, I think most people would agree that the price is far less than that of a horrible fiery death.... Or worse, you lose your car and survive the incident crippled. |
not to mention environmentally dangerous.:bigthumb:
