changing oil pan gasket
I am kind of new at asking question on forms so please bare with me.but I have an 83 supra and I can't get the back part of the oil pan to drop? I have read some forms stating the motor have to be jacked up in order to get the pan off? Is this true? I dont understand why this has to be done? Yes I do have a cross member but I can get passed that without having to take my whole supention apart ,but it looks like the back of the pan is hung up on the back aluminum plate that is up against the tranny?? Can someone help that has done an oil pan gasket change before on a mkll ..thank you!

If memory serves you should have to remove two bolts holding on the inspection plate for standard and automatic transmission models,
If all bolts are removed and there appears to be clearance use appropriate prying locations The pan does not have to fully be removed to replace the gasket, i used silicon gasket spread on both sides of mine with great results, just make sure all oil from gasket surface is removed.

Pan Gasket
Thank you for responding..I have fixed the pan gasket to only find out that my main front seal has gone bad possibly? It appears to be leaking oil from that place ? I dont know where else it could be coming from? I know my head gasket hasn't gone bad ..I have no signs or symptoms to make me lean towards this...however I am investigating how hard it would be to replace the main front seal?! It looks timw consuming though and I believe at this point the motor may need to come up to get to this...😞 my baby is down yet again ...😱

Not the end of the world infact a fairly easy fix if you have any experience with timing belts and pulling out old seals.
I would recommend purchasing a whole timing belt kit that comes with front seal and camshaft seals. If you don't have the money to purchase the entire kit simply buy the front main seal it requires if memory serves to have the timing belt removed and the crank shaft snout exposed, all can be done with the engine inside the car and radiator and ac cooler removed. personally I put thread locker on my harmonic balancer too. If you have any question about the procedure I am happy to help

If you are not mechanicaaly inclined, just go to a reputable shop to have the seals replaced.
